In NY and I had a lapse in liability insurance, now I have to surrender my plates for 57 days?
Posted on Mar 09, 2008 under Insurance Information |How am i supposed to go to work? Is there any way around this? The letter says suspension is effective 3/27/08 and lasting 57 days. Is there any type of long term car rental where i could get a car for two months without paying moare than 2-3 hundred or so? Im in rockland country ny.. this stinks.. help appreciated

Public transportation, car pooling, or another car. No, there's no way around it. It's the end result of allowing your insurance to lapse.

You cant rent a car that cheap for sure but you can do something else. In stead of surrendering your registration you can pay a fine. The fine is $8/day for the first 30 days, then $10/day for the next 30 days. So in your case it goes like this:
30×8= $240
27×10= $270
total fine $510…… but renting a car for the same time period you can figure $15/day is the best you can get which equals $650 or so with tax……. either pay the fine or find someone who has a spare car you can borrow for a couple months.
