Can a health insurance company get you records if you go to a new docotor?

Posted on Mar 11, 2008 under Insurance Information |

I am trying to get insurance, but I've mild dyspilaisa before and I was told it would be considered a pre existing condition, If I would go to a different doctor would they still find out about somehow from my old doc? Because they said something about checking my med records and I might have to pay out of pocket if I have it again which I know I do because I've already went to the doctor and they told me..
I found out I had it in 2002. I called Blue cross blue South Carolina and they said that might considering it pre existing even it was treated. I thought about going to a different doc and not telling them. The first time i had insurance i didn't even have a doc at the time, so …I'm just scared if i lie that i will get caught and maybe get in to some kind of trouble..
Thanks for any adivce

  1. You have to tell them who your doctors are, so if you do not have mention of it in a certain doctor's records and you don't give them the name of the doc who treats you for this condition, you could slip it past them. BUT if they ever find out they can retroactively make it pre-existing and get refunds from the docs for the money they paid, and then you'll be responsible to pay the doc. How long ago were you treated for this before? Because at the company I used to work for they only looked back a couple of years in your records. So if it's been 4 or 5 years since you were treated, you may not have to worry about it anyway.

  2. Only if you sign a waiver
