Do I have to continue paying for car insurance when i don't have a vehicle, but still drive?
Posted on Mar 14, 2008 under Insurance Information |I've been paying for my insurance for about 6 months now even though I haven't had a car. (my cars transmission went bad) But I'm still driving, and was just wondering if I have to continue paying for the insurance to be able to drive at all.

If you drive company vehicles, the company pays for the insurance.Yes, if you drive at all, someone down the line has to insure the car you drive and you.

You need to be on the other persons car insurance that you are driving. Because if u crashed driving their car the claim would be invalid.

Ok, well which/who's car are you driving now??
If it's someone elses, you will need to bo listed as a secondary/named driver on the poilcy, as you are technically breaking the law.
The insurance on your car, which I'm presuming you no longer drive, you can either continue paying it for the remainder of your policy, or cancel the policy-which may cause difficulties when applying for car insurance again.
Maybe you should phone you insurance company and ask what to do?You may be able to transfer your policy onto thecar you are driving now (provided its with same company).

firstly - You should check with who provides your insurance. You can cancel your insurance at any time however to carry on driving you must be insured. To drive all cars, you have to have a fully comprehensive insurance and also be over 25. It depends on who's car you are driving - but sometimes its cheaper to get added to someones insurance rather than having your own policy

No. How would the insurance company set your rate? You have no car.

Insurance goes with the car, if you don't want to drop it compelely, ask if you can suspend it.
Where is your car? If it's still in your name, you want it covered. If it's a lost cause sell it or haul it to the junk yard and drop the insurance completely.

cancel your policy if you dont own a car! why would you keep paying for it? if you are driving a car of a person who lives in the same house, you need to be listed as a driver on their policy. if you occassionaly drive a friends car with permission, then you are fine. insurance follows the car not the person, so as long as the person whose car you are driving has insurance on that car, then you are covered.

Insurance goes with vehicles. If you no longer have a car, no need to have insurance. However, if your car is just not being driven, but is parked anywhere but your own garage, you need to keep it licensed and insured. Even in your own garage, it's a good idea for your own protection. But if you don't own the car any longer, drop the insurance.
