Life insurance company regected application?
Posted on Mar 14, 2008 under Insurance Information |I am 33 years old, no history of health problems, non smoker, non drinker but am pregnant and overweight (when I sighned the application, I reported this, knowing full well I would not be covered for any pregnancy related problems). This is my 2nd child and my first child (although I was also overweight) had a normal ,healthy pregancy and problem free deliver. I am the major breadwinner in the family. My application was rejected.
My husband is 36 years old, smoker, has history of some health problems but not serious, slightly over weight. His application was accepted.
Why?

You have a right to know why you were rejected. With the rejection letter, there should have been a way to get details from the insurance company's underwriter that would tell you exactly what they rejected you for. It could have been any number of things including something that showed up in your blood profile. It is not only helpful to know why your were rejected, it could also be something that you should follow up on with your doctor. Check with your agent if you didn't get instructions on how to contact the underwriter,

You need to ask the insurer why. Was it your weight or just the temporary condition of pregnancy?

If I had to guess, you are probably in your last trimester of pregnancy and with all the complications that can happen during delivery, the company is just not willing to take the risk. However, as others have said, you have the right to know why and you should make the effort to find out why. If it is as I suggested, once the baby gets her, you should reapply and will probably get coverage.
