Do i report it to the insurance?
Posted on Mar 15, 2008 under Insurance Information |I am leasing a 2007 BMW (I had a bmw before and its not worth buying). Last night slept over my friends house and when i woke up this morning, I walked to my car and noticed someone broke my windshield and dented the trimming on the frame of the car. I had a police report done and now im wondereing what my next step would be. Its obvious its an act of juniville mischief.
i dont want to report it because i dont want my insurance to go up.
will this ruin my lease?

turn it in you will need the police report and tell the insurance company what happened and they will have it fixed

Absolutely report it to insurance! If you can report it online, that is the easiest way. Otherwise, call the phone number on the back of your insurance card.
You have to have it fixed, as it is not your car. If you have comprehensive insurance (full coverage) it will cover such damage. You may have a deductible, which will mean you get less money from the insurance company to repair the damage. You should find this out before you take it to get an estimate. It you will not be able to afford the deductible, wait until after you get the estimate to discuss this with the body shop. You may be able to talk them into a discount or only repairing the important things first. Some places will bill you for the additional if you come in with a lump of money for the repair.
If you are worried about your rates going up, don't. This typically only happens after an accident or violation.

In Virginia if you're filing on your Comprehensive Coverage, which is what will probably happen in your case, then your insurance premium won't increase but there is still the deductible. I don't know where you live but I would think this would be very similar just about everywhere.

Vandalism claim shouldn't make your rates go up.
The only other alternative is to go to a body shop and glass repair shop and pay your $1000 to have it fixed……but, on the other hand, your claim IS subject to you comprehensive deductible…….so, weigh the difference….
Good luck and I hope this helps!

Glass claims usually have a $0 deductible and are not chargeable to you in extra premium. If you had 3 or 4 of these, your insurance company could drop you due to excessive claims but can't charge extra premium.
The dented trim may be subject to your comp. deductible.
Good luck!

Hi, maybe this is a little bit off topic here, however I had been reading your site and it appears great!. I’m creating a web site and attempting to make it appear clean, however each time I touch it I screw something up. Did you build and style the website by yourself? Can a person with very little experience do it, as well as add frequent updates without messing it up? Anyway, info on here, very helpful.
