Why was Hillary against mandated Health Insurance in 1994 and for it in 2008?
Posted on Mar 17, 2008 under Insurance Information |Read the following quote from Hillary Clinton in 1994, In it she states that Mandated healthcare coverage leaves millions uninsured. However she has never stated as such during the campaign. Why was Hillary against mandated Health Insurance in 1994 and for it in 2008?
'The only examples we have of individual mandates are those like auto insurance requirements in many states where, in spite of the fact that the state has access to all drivers through the licensing process, literally thousands and even hundreds of thousands of drivers remain uninsured in states with such an individual mandate.'
Although 47 states mandate that everyone have Auto insurance, almost 15 percent of drivers do not.
Not Me - What's so different between 1994 and 2008 when it comes to Universal Healthcare coverage.
Noah H - Are you aware of the origination of Hillary's current healthcare plan? It was proposed by Republican Senator John Chafee in 1994.
Misty1949 - Where are my facts wrong. I read half of the article that you posted and saw nothing that conflicts with my statement. The facts are clear, Hillary did not support a Mandated healthcare plan when she worked so hard to come up with a "universal" healthcare plan in 1994, yet now she does.

Please the Clinton's just love the "Issue" to exist period. They take the side of whatever the polls indicate. She will be busy enjoying the power and wealth that can be accumulated while being president. She has squandered her Senate career on a P.R. Campaign to get ready for this "Coronation" that she feels is due her.
From the Library of Congress:
Hillary Clinton in her one full term(6 yrs.) and another year campaigning, has authored and passed only 20 pieces of legislation in her term of six years into law. They range from naming a courthouse after Thurgood Marshall to naming a Post Office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
Obama in his first 8 Months sponsored over 820 Bills. Introduced 233 Bills on Healthcare Reform, 125 Bills on Poverty and Public Assistance, 112 Bills on Crime Fighting, 97 Economic Bills, 60 Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Bills, 21 Ethics Reform Bills, 6 Veterans Affairs Bills and many others. In his First Year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 Bills and co-spomsored another 427. These Include: 1) the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 that became Law, 2) the Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-prliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act that became Law, 3) the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that passed the Senate, 4) the 2007 Government Ethics Bill that became Law, just to name a few. In all, since he entered the Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 Bills and co-sponsored another 1096.

Short answer? Because it wasn't "popular then".
Hillary has no original ideas. She formulates her opinions based on what's easiest and popular. She would never conceptualize anything on her own. Nor will she will ever go against what's popular to do what's right…
OBAMA 08!!

She was for universal healthcare in 1994 and quickly shut up after she was paid off. Now she's saying it to get votes. How do you think her and Frmr Pres. Clinton made over $13 million dollars last year?
March 17th, 2008 at 3:35 am
I think the point is to make a single payer plan available. Will some people skate out of it? For sure! 1994 was almost a decade and a half ago…things change. Today we need some kind of universal health INSURANCE more than ever…..we're already paying for it, but we're not getting it. It's time for the GOP to get on the right side of this issue and stop BSing about 'socalism' and government health CARE. They won't, because what elesr do they have?

She supported the war 5 years back but now she opposes it.
It's a common trend for her.
She says she'll bring good things to the US, but it will be totally the opposite if she gets elected.

Insurance is Insurance, it's should be their if you choose to buy it, not a mandate (or it shouldnt be a mandate). Remember that when you pay your insurance premiums currently a precentage of that payment goes into a fund that covers people that doesnt have health care, so in a way your already paying for it, if she does what she wants to do, we are screwed…If you work, you get granished from your wages to purchase it….Insurance as others should be something you choose to buy, not something the government makes you buy whether you want it or not, this will leave millions of americans, not working because they will figure its cheaper not to, and still get free health care, she is opening up a can of worms that will destroy us from within. with our ecomony in the termoil it is already in, we really do not need another fee…Its a nice thought to cover the america, but whats next the whole world, and people dont be fooled, we as the tax payers are footing that bill…Fact when they changed the Health care plan the last time Bill was in office, my husband premiums went up almost double, and havent stopped since…I can not believe how many working class americans are stupid enough to fall into this, talk to your health care provider and ask them what would happen, they will tell you point blank, its a terrible idea…Besides we are dealing with Hillary or should I say Sybil, so whoknows she might change her mind again…Do we really want someone running our White House with that type of instability…

"mandated health insurance" is even worse than the universal healthcare they have in other countries. Of course, Hitlary supports it now because we have millions more illegal aliens to fund.
Vote for Ron Paul to keep growing government totalitarianism out of our lives.

She is like the wind, however she always tailors her ideas in the direction in which she believes will lead her to victory. Hillary's new catch phrase? "Anything to win!"
