My Mother Has Breast Cancer - But can't afford the insurance?
Posted on Mar 27, 2008 under Insurance Information |My Mother lives in Michigan and is currently recovering from breast cancer. I am so proud of her to have fought this long and make it through the hard parts. The problem is that we live in Michigan and here it isn't a law that everyone can get insurance through the state. So we are having to pay out of pocket for her insurance, which we can't afford. But she has to keep up with her appointments and check ups. Does anyone know if there are any type of programs or charities for this kind of thing? Thank you in advance for any help!

Same thing happened to me, but here the Memorial Hospital has a Primary Care Health Plan, and it covered all the expenses, and still does after 4 years of treatment, find out with the Department of Health in your county, or with a social worker they can help you with that information.

I leave in Miami and there is a non-profited organization called Liga contra el cancer/League against cancer, they provide free services and treatment to cancer patients check their site and give them a call they may be able to provide you with guidance on where to go in your state.

I live in ct. there is a program call. early detection. IT covers breast exams and pelvic exams, and pays for any cancer treatment they may be needed. You might call the human resorce department at you local hospitals to see it they have asimilar program.

Believe it or not, you are lucky to have insurance. If you cannot afford the insurance, you could drop it and start getting billed for treatment. The hospital may have a financial aid program. If your mother has no income, she may qualify for Medicaid.
