If your friend names you on his life insurance, it means that he trusts you and thinks you will handle his money in his best interest.

There is nothing for you to worry if he has made you the nominee in the insurance policy covering HIS life.
To my knowledge , no one can get your life insured and take a policy without your consent and knowledge.If that is possible in some country, you should be immediately go on guards to protect yourself

No, your signature is required. There is no way for you not to know. The Insurance Co. must know who the payer is going to be. What if he dies? Ever heard next of kin? It may be a sister, brother, etc.
