Posted on Apr 01, 2008 under Insurance Information |is it possible to get just a six month insurace policy and then have no coverage for 6 months and then repeat? Here is why im asking. I have a moped and i will not be riding it during the winter so i was wondering if i could get insurance for like april through september and then stop until next april without the price going up. Yes you can get a six month policy, but most insurance companies will adjust for the winter months. I'd go ahead and get a year , because there may be a pretty winter day perfect for riding your scooter.

Some states require you to keep insurance on your vehicles all the time that they are registered. If you do drop your insurance you may be required to turn in your license plate. So it would be wise to check your states dmv for more info. Also with a break in coverage it could cause the premium to go up when you get coverage again.

Depending on the State where you reside as to whether or not they require insurance to be on the vehicle due to registration requirements or can you "suspend" the registration as "out of service."
Also, most insurance companies figure into the rates charged for the winter months and lack of riding - so, it is still probably going to be less expensive to insure for a year than trying to insure for six months - a lot of companies also have a minimum premium charge. In Texas, we can write a liability policy for as little as $46 on a motorcycle!
Check around with a local independent insurance agent especially one that specializes in insuring motorcycles!
Good luck, ride RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

Insurance policies are usually for 6 months anyways. Try comparing rates at all the insurance companies in your area at http://InsureMeToday.info
