Why is it ok for a police officer to treat me like crap for not having insurance, but let a drunk go?
Posted on May 05, 2008 under Insurance Information | 12 CommentsI was pulled over by a police officer and he treated me like crap for not having insurance on my car and told me it was people like me that makes insurance rates high,{ i live in michigan and the no fault insurance law doesnt pay any way}, but a couple years later i find out he lets a friend of mine who had been drinking, and i pretty sure was above the legal limit, go because he knew his dad. Who do you ask questions to without becoming a target? I think this town is in the good ol boys network.
my friends dad wasnt a cop, just knew him. I know i was in the wrong for not having insurance, i'm not denying it.I'm not "feeling sorry for myself" either, just want to know why its ok to do what he did.
"And how do you know your friend was above the legal limit? Where you there? Are you an expert on sobriety tests?" I had another friend that was in the car with the one that got pulled. He originally told me the story and told me he thought they both were going to jail. Then i was talking to the friend that got pulled over and ask him about it and he said "I was sure i was going to jail that night", so i ask him why he didnt , and he said " cause he knew my dad".
The main question i want to know, is there a way to talk to someone about this when it happens? Not to get him/her in trouble, or file a complaint. Just tell someone in charge "hey this happend" without stepping on any toes or stiring anything up, because its stuff like this that makes people dislike, have no respect or trust for them.I know its not all cops. the bad overshadow the good.

Bumper, hood, radiator and the air bags cracked windshield. The body damage is est. at $2100. The air bags @ @2200. State Farm wants to total the car. (1998 Ford Escort) We purchased from Ford dealer 4 months ago for $5,000. Car in mint shape. Still owe $2500.00. What are my options? How can I get them to fix the car? I pay $300.00 month for Insurance. What do you think?
