Please, Please HELP! What can I do about my c r a p p y Health Insurance?
Posted on Jun 02, 2008 under Insurance Information |For 12 years, I had AVMED. Everyone I knew said it was really bad. I'm telling you I never had one problem with them and I only paid 10 or 20 bucks a visit when I went to the doctor(specialists included). My prescriptions were between 7 and 20 bucks.
Now, I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Blue options plan). Oh my God, it is just awful. My out of pocket expenses are killing me. My scripts are outrageous. They never pay what the doctor bills you. They will only do 80 percent of what they think the bill should be. Now I have 5 medications I am supposed to be on but I can't afford them. I woeked at the welfare office for 12 years. People who sit on their a s s e s and don't work, get a much better plan with medicaid than I do because I'm working. And I am paying 400 bucks a month for this trash. I would consider paying twice as much if I could get everything included because my co pays and expensive scripts are costing me 400 a month at least.
Any suggestions? Serious answers only please

HIP - http://www.hipusa.com/
$15 copay Dr. appointments
$5 perscription
One draw back - to go to a specialist that's not in the HIP directory, you need a referral from you primary physision - most primarys will send a referral to your specialist. Just give your primary a call. Ask your primary if he'll do this.

Since you are already with BCBS, can you switch you plan to Blue Care Network, and is it even offered where you live? I have Blue care network, and I really like my plan.
You do work through a primary care physician, and need a referral to see a specialist, but this works fine. I have three specialists, and they are all covered.
If I have any problems, I see my primary care doctor, never a wait, and if she cannot help, she will refer a specialist (besides my normal three specialists). It is very easy.
I am on many meds, and the max I pay is $20 for each. One I pay nothing for. Hospital care is covered 100%, emergency visits are $25 co-pay. My primary care physician is affiliated with Providence Hospital, so this is my hospital.
Blue Care Network is a PPO through Blue Cross.
Hope this helps.

You might check with the Pharmacist at your clinic, some Pharmaceutical company's have drug assistance programs you might qualify for. Unfortunately most insurance plans these day's have those high deductibles, it's your employers way of having you share in the cost of Health care, and it does suck, there's no doubt about that!
