    It's not required, but if you can find a medical malpractice insurer to write you a policy you should buy it. Don't ever assume your employer is ever going to carry your liability because if, in a suit, you are found to be solely responsible, they will come after you and once they take the small amount of liability in your homeowner's policy (usually up to $50k), then they'll come after the rest of your assets.
    An easy way to protect more of that is to buy an umbrella liability policy. If you already have a homeowner's policy, you can usuallly get a $1-mil umbrella for under $150 per year.
