Why do we need life insurance when we have God?

Matt 6:24-26
24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

I understand some answers, but if the bible was directed to Jesus's deciples or someone that lived 2000 years ago, why are we reading it?
Dogmatic Dingo, you seem completely ignorant of Africa. I am from South Africa and no ones starving here. People aren't as rich as in Europe or North America, but at least we are humble and love out neighbors(well some of us). If eupropeans(my ancesters) didn;t invade Africa the people here would've still lived the natural way. But now the western culture has destroyed the true way of living from the earth. Why, I dont know

As a saved woman, I still find insurance to be quite valuable. Life insurance helps those you love who are still on Earth. It's not for you- it's for them. It helps cover the cost of your funeral, and it helps family members to adjust to a lower income.
Just because a person has life insurance doesn't mean they serve money. It just means they're looking out for the ones they love.

It all depends on ones measure of faith.
Read Romans 14. For some people, their faith allows them to eat meat, and others vegetables. But whatever we do, it should be done to the glory of God!

Because after death, you still got family to take care of. God won't send them a check to bury your body, and they need some cash to get on their feet again.

I totally agree with Elizabeth…
the verses you've quoted do not mean banks and life insurance…you've taken them out of context..have you read the whole chapter?
The context of the chapter is a guideline on how to priortize your life…what to put first…
The verses you talk about are concerned with the priority you put on money. No where does it talk about life insurance. I know other Christians that believe the same way and it's selfish. My in-law's infact, take the road that when they die, "God will provide" a way for all of their debt to be paid off. Yeah - by us, the kids….will I end up having to use my daughter's college savings because of their belief?
Try not to take the bible so literally - G-d deals with proverbs and principals….this isn't Rome in 89AD….

That seems like a good ideal, but is not the world we live in.
Was he talking to me and you or was he talking to his discpiles in Judea nearly 2000 years ago? Seriously - think about that. Is what he taught to his disciples - in their framework of Judaism and in their time - applicable to us now? If so, to what extent? There may be purposes for this we don't now know of.

IF we would save our money we send on insurance we probally wouldn't need it. Oh about God he take care of us when we can take care of ourselves..

If god is providing for his children, he's not doing such a good job in Africa. All he is providing for them are mosquitos to kill them off sooner. Maybe in his mercy, he is saving them from dying of starvation.
