The only witnesses were friends of these people, who went to "run an errand" instead of accompnaying my child back home to make sure he was okay (he's five). They did call the police, however, while I was busy rushing my son to ER, and made sure to tell them a completely skewed version of the events (the police actually told me I was lucky they decided not to press charges for vandalism–this while the doctor is pulling loose teeth out of my son's mouth).
Ordinarily I would say, oh, well, accidents happen–but it really, really bothers me that they just didn't care that they had hurt a small child; didn't bother to tell me what happened, just took off to the liquor store like it was nothing. This is not okay, and I feel that the least they can do is pay for this fun little visit to ER, which is going to run into several hundred, even with insurance.
