How bad does your insurance go up when you get points on your lisence?
Posted on Jul 01, 2008 under Insurance Information |I am 17….i got a speeding ticket for doing 20 over in the state of new jersey…. i already totaled my first car…so my insurance is high….if i juss pay my ticket what will happen…or if i go to court will they suspend my lisence? i still havent told my parents that i got the ticket

if i dont get points will my insurance still go up?

You are in a tough spot because of your age. You are in a high risk bracket. Every ticket you get will increase your insurance. Good luck!

The next time you renew your insurance with is automattic they will pull a history on your licence. This will show any current tickets and point applied to it.
If you are in NJ and already have acident points and just got a 4 point speeding ticket expect to be droped. Anything 9 points and over you have to legaly placed on state insurance witch is a min of 5k per year. I have been there and after that have held a clean record for 6 years. Its not worth screwing around inthe car bro. You will not get suspended if you go to court try and get the points droped from 4 to 2 and pay a larger fine.

You shouldn't be on the road just stop and look at all the grief you've already caused your mom and dad. Your insurance will go even high if they choose to insure you and they will probably suspend your licenses.

Your insurance is already high, just because you're under 25. Added to that, an accident drives it up more. The points may or may not drive it up more in the near future, but it will definitely go up in about 6 months during the routine checks.
If it's a ticket where you can simply pay the fine, then going to court will not result in a license suspension. The worst that will happen is that you still have to pay the fine, but you might, just MIGHT, get the judge to reduce the charge (same fine) to have fewer points on your record.
If you actually contest the charge, some jurisdictions require that you post a bond when fighting a ticket so that you're not just wasting their time on a frivolous contention.

Since you are only 17 and are considered a "high risk driver", the insurance may just drop you all together. The other option is to raise your or your parents premium 10%. Ouch. Slow down, keep your nose clean and drive safely instead. You parents will find out when they get the bill or see the summons. Get ready to fess up to the problem. Also, it takes 3 years to clear your record of the points and 3-5 years for insurance purposes! Ouch again. Be more careful. I recommend going to court and pleading down to a lesser charge, maybe one with no points. Don't just pay the fine and plead guilty.
