What insurance company will pay for gastric bypass?
Posted on Jul 08, 2008 under Insurance Information |I am 41 year old type 2 diabetic. My doctor has already determined medical necessity for gastric bypass surgery. But, my insurance company won't pay for any thing related to obesity. Does any one know of an insurance company that might accept a diabetic and pay for at least most of the surgery?

Few insurance companies pay for this care, and an individual policy that waives such a pre-existing condition would be either nonexistent or VERY expensive.
Medicaid does not cover this diagnosis, and you aren't old enough for Medicare yet.

PS, the link the last poster left was for a discount plan, not an insurance company. But, this might be an option if you confirm the provider you would use accepts this discount.
