Actually, the health and liability insurance for a professional football player is taken care of by the team that holds their contract. After all, it is only protecting their investment, as an injured or ill player does them no good. And with all the team doctors, trainers and so on, there are always plenty of people keeping an eye on them.
That would leave a player responsible for their auto and homeowners insurance, unless they opt to take out any personal insurance protecting them against a career-ending injury.
