In Orlando, how would a single person go about getting personal PPO medical insurance that covers mental healt

My girlfriend is in need of personal medical insurance, PPO. She doesn't get it through work currently and she has some needs to go to a psychiatrist and therapist for anxiety and depression issues. She's asked me to help her because she feels overwhelmed and I want to do everything I can for her.

  1. Find an insurance agent. PPO is a TYPE of medical insurance. It's rather expensive. Do you really require PPO? HMO insurance is less expensive.

Blue Cross / Blue Shield will ALWAYS write an individual plan. Also check with Assurant (formerly known as Fortis).

An independent insurance agent should be able to check multiple companies for you. Be up front with the agent so that he or she can assist you with finding the best plan for her needs.

    Good luck.

  2. I would say contact a local insurance agent by going through the Yellow Pages or online. Usually smaller companies or individual agents can present you with personal medical coverage plans in a variety of coverage levels and price ranges. In my experience, the price quote is anywhere from $200-$800 a month. Don't be discouraged if they quote you something high. Just try contacting another local agent.

If she requires seeing a therapist right away, colleges usually have mental health clinics that are open to students and the public. This may be a good start if she requires immediate help. Hospitals sometimes have smaller medical offices within their facility where she can receive attention as well, or be referred to someone.

Best of luck to you both!
