pro: The policy will stay with you as long as you live. It builds up a cash value that can be borrowed from of claimed on surrender of the policy. Some policies can be made paid up at a certain age.
con: It is generally more expensive then term insurance (which is only temporary insurance)
mrjo pretty much nailed it. the same argument can be expanded to all permanent insurance.
UPDATE:
Pension Maximization is a good point OPM. Also, unless Congress acts, Estate Taxes are another reason one might have a significant need for coverage later in life. In addition, beyond the "need" there are also sometimes "wants" that would call for maintaining large policies into one's later years, such as endowments, charitable gifts to colleges or other organizations that are important to the individual.
One other pro, if held for life it costs about 1/6th of term.
The con is that most people need little insurance for their entire life. The exception is married recipients of pensions, who can in certain circumstances improve their retirement income by replacing the joint annuity with a single annuity and a paid up policy of equal value to the pension. Most insurance obligations disappear with age, except burial and final medical expenses. Still, if you are young, $10,000 today is a lot of money with inflation in 80 years. Even in six decades, from a back of the envelope calculation, it becomes $110,000.
Whole life (or cash value) insurance builds up cash value, but term insurance is cheaper. I say buy term and invest the difference in a good no-load mutual fund at vanguard.com or fidelity.com. You can also invest the difference in your 401K at work. The cash value you build up from these investments will probably be higher than the whole life insurance.
@chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don’t have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. Interesting point of view. What are your thoughts on expansion on a global scale? People obviously get frustrated when it begins to affect them locally. I will be back soon and follow up with a response.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Awsome post and straight to the point. I am not sure if this is in fact the best place to ask but do you folks have any ideea where to employ some professional writers? Thx

Amazing article. Did you study the related piece within the Huffington Publish a while again? Evidently more and more mainstream media are having to pay attention to this. I hope your web site will get more and more subscribers as this problem will get more protection, because it is a superb useful resource.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
Another very sturdy and powerful post. I’ve been reading via some of your previous posts and at last decided to drop a comment on this one. I signed up on your newsletter, so please keep up the informative posts!

I’m wondering if you have noticed how the media has changed? What once seemed like a never discussed issue has become more prevelant. Overall though I’m looking for a change.
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
Great points altogether, personally I’m gonna have to bookmark this and come back to it. What would you suggest in regards to your post that you made a few days ago?

Finally the first particular person to comment. You are making a few nice factors here. I was studying John Reese’s weblog yesterday about building friendships and I see that you make a point on this post approximately building friendships and relationships. They’re definitely important.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
Man! It is like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pictures to drive the content home a bit, but other than that, this is good blog post. A outstanding read. I’ll certainly be back.
Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
Noticed your Blog bookmarked on Reddit. I honestly enjoy your blog and marketing tactic. Investigate out my Farmville Guidebook in the event you get a moment.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

(There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

December 20th, 2010 at 9:35 am

December 28th, 2010 at 5:28 am
