If I file a claim with my auto insurance, even if it is not for a collision, will my premium go up?

  1. It really depends, typically yes it will go up, it may not go up as much as if it were for a collision, but any claim typically will result in a premium increase.

(ie if your radio was stolen it may indicate that your car is being parked in a high risk area or not in a secure garage at night)

  2. as hsue said…it really depends. it depends on the company, it depends on the kind of claim, it depends on the frequency with which you report claims. if the insurance company determines you to be a higher risk (not high risk…just higher than what they originally thought) then yes…your premium could very well go up. if anything, contact your agent…it is their job to know things like that and explain to you the risks of filing a claim like that and whether or not it is really worth filing.
